My dad had a stroke two years ago. Recovery has been a slow process, but I’m glad he’s still here. Thanks to the therapists and caregivers who have been very supportive and helpful through the process. I didn’t realize a stroke had to work its way through the body and that it takes time. He was able to walk into the emergency room and one day later he couldn’t walk! If you notice numbness, blurred vision, not having balance or slurred speech be fast and call 9-1-1. My dad couldn’t feel his arm and couldn’t keep food in his mouth. Two years later, he can walk with a cane, speaks more clearly and can keep food in his mouth. My dad won’t be the same before he had a stroke, (which is sad) but I still treat him like I usually would. He’s still my dad even though he had a brain injury. He gets confused a lot of where he is or what he is supposed to do next, but it’s important to be patient. I take one day at a time and keep praying he will continue to get better.
